After her acclaimed feature debut THE LURE (Special Jury Award for Unique Vision and Design in Sundance 2016 and more than 20 awards at festivals worldwide), the Polish director Agnieszka Smoczyńska will present her second feature film FUGUE (Fuga) in Competition at the 57th Semaine de la critique (Critics’ Week) this year in Cannes.
EN > Alicja has no memory and doesn’t know how she lost it. During two years of living with amnesia, she manages to build her new, independent self away from home. She doesn't want to remember what she was before. So when her family finally finds her, she's suddenly forced to fit into the roles of the mother, the daughter and the wife, and relate to people who are now complete strangers. Similarly, her husband managed to piece a new life back together, because in a way, the former Alicja was “dead” to both him and to their son.
« FUGUE tells the story of a woman’s impossible return to her family life, infusing this psychological thriller with fantasy. Thanks to its brilliant directing and powerful interpretation, the film conveys the insanity-driven anguish that will upset the family balance.
